The Teardrop 1920s Art Deco mantel

We make Fireplaces from 1920s Art Deco fireplaces and classic Edwardian fireplace and mantel designs.
The sweeping streamlined curves to the top of this fire surround show its 1920s origins. The moulded shelf front is gently curved between swept back shoulders in typical 1920s fashion. A distinctive feature of this mantel is the delicate "tear drop" detailing behind the central shelf. The shallow back to the shelf echoes the bowed front and is decorated with two tear-drop shapes in relief that give the mantel its name. A simple moulding skirts the mantel opening and at the bottom are two slender block feet. Typically the surround would have been fitted with a tiled insert and hearth with a sympathetic Art Deco design to coordinate with the features of the mantel.
