Edwardian mahogany mantel
An impressive Edwardian mantelpiece in mahogany with a wealth of detail revealing the skill of the craftsman who made it.
The semi-circular pillasters have fine turned details at the base and are beautifully hand carved at the top with a stylised fern leaf pattern. The curved central shelf is a boxed construction that has dot and dash moulding under its edge and is supported by a large scroll bracket.
Above the central shelf is a large (27.5 inch x 14.5 inch) oval bevelled mirror the recess for which has subtly curved moulding round the sides and top. The piece is topped by a large, two tiered shelf with moulded edges.
Over the years the brown mahogany colour has acquired a beautiful patina to complement the close grained wood with its various underlying colours.
