1920s mantel with recessed frieze
An imposing fire surround in flame and fiddle back mahogany.
The mantel has pilasters topped by hand carved acanthus leaf capitols.
Above the mantels capitols, the pilasters continue up and across the top of the piece framing a beautiful, concavely recessed frieze with large flame mahogany panels.
The mantels fireplace opening is stepped forward beneath the mantel frieze creating an ample central shelf which is edged with ebonised stringing.
The fireplace opening also has a finely moulded edge with mitred fiddle back pattern around it and a delicate rib of half-round beading.
The generous 7 inch rebate on the mantel will accommodate the vast majority of fireplace inserts and would particularly suit one such as the Stanshall fireplace insert.
